be careful with your credit cards

Postby busted on Sat Mar 15, 2008 5:19 pm

I just got a call today saying there was unusual charges on my credit card today.

Apparently someone went to verizon wireless and tried charging $275 to my card and then another $100. This was after they tested it by charging $1 twice.

I am so glad I accidentally signed up for fraud protection for my card. They called this morning and I missed the call and then they called again at 2 and at 4.

We got it all fixed and they are putting a fraud thing on my card there...

I am trying figure out who would do this. The only person other than myself who would have access to my info is my ex boyfriend Rob, who I was dating for 2 years until last month. I am pretty sure he would never do anything like that to me but you never know. I also was thinking that his crazy ex wife could have gone through the mail box at his place and got my statement and done this to me. Or even one of his neighbors, most of them are crack heads or psychos.

I am so glad the bank caught this and called me.

I had just bought a plane ticket to Boston for next month last night. I was worried that it wouldnt go through.

I am so happy I gave into my friends begging of 9 years and am finally going out to visit him for 2 weeks. I need a vacation bad, between all the stress of moving back in with my parents and drama of the break up, I am about to lose my mind!

Thanks Sara... The horses will stay where they are at for now. They are way to happy there and its the best place I am gonna find for the price. If I move far enough away that the commute will be to much then they will move.

I have offers from friends and family to move to the LA area and to CleElum area.

Everything is still all up in the air, I may stay here at my parents house until my mom is healed from her hip replacement surgery this summer. She is going to need alot of help. More then she does now. She cant walk up and down the stairs and I worry about her. I am not far behind her in the way of my hip....

Yeah the break up was a long time coming, and it is for the best for me and my health!

I hope this vacation is what I need and everything goes great!!

you've got a lot going on right now!

I would not look too hard at anyone that close in your life. These things are more typically very random.

Yeah its been crazy this last month. Glad things are starting to settle down and I can finally have a day where I dont cry and can actually enjoy my day. Everyday is a better day....

Your right, could be anyone. Thats why I am doing an address change to my parents house probably forever or until I get my butt married and have a place of my own.... they have a secure mailbox and I know the only person who will go though my mail is my mom and her snoopy self.... but she just likes reading my bills and asking me stupid questions about it. She has always done that and sometimes she will pay it for me. lol

The account for that card was closed and they are sending me a new card and account number to my parents house....

The charging $1.00 twice is a classic. That happened on a credit card of mine. I had a $25,000 credit limit, but I knew there was no balance. When I got the bill in the mail, I thought, "This cannot be good." I opened it and saw two charges for msn.com back to back. I called the credit card company (Capital One) and they said that this was the pattern. They charge twice and then they are off to the races with your credit limit. I cannot understand WHY they didn't go to town on my card, but maybe they had so many positive hits, they didn't have time to get back to my number. Anyway, I cancelled the card immediately and never opened another. I've never had trouble with any other card company. I had the definite feeling that it was a random hit on the number, that maybe Capital One wasn't as careful with generating their numbers. When I worked at a bank 30 years ago, we did not generate numbers sequentially. They had to add up to a particular sequence. It prevented fraud.

By the way, msn.com was really responsive. They tracked down the names and addresses used and turned them over to the police (although I'm sure nothing else happened after that.)

We had a simular thing happen to us afew months ago. Someone purchased gas on our card in Texas. We don't live in Texas and have never been to Texas. OUr credit card company flagged our card, called us, and deleted the charges, and canceled the card. It unfortunately happens alot to alot of people out there.
Dynamite horses ALL the way!!!!
