B's night at the arena!

I decided to take advantage of my open schedule and good weather this evening by taking Rory to a local arena to work him in preparation for the beach trip. My girlfriend, Natalie (who also adopted Margie), was in the area and decided to go with me.

She's an excellent rider, especially with horses that are a bit insecure - so, I invited her to come along with me and ride B. She immediately took to him, while I described his known issues, things that the trainers at the clinic thought would help him as well as keeping our own confidence levels up while working with him. She completely understood and went to saddling him up.

He was very good and didn't snort like he has in the past, though did tense up a bit when she set the saddle on his back.

Once Natalie had him saddled, she made him move out as she lunged him for a few minutes. He never bucked or had any issues with the saddle and lunged perfectly for her.

Once she was confident that B would be find when she mounted, we headed over to the arena. She got on and walked him around, introducing him to the different obstacles inside. There were jumps, barrels and poles set up. B was incredibly laid back, never showing nervousness about any of it!

She walked, trotted and cantered him around. It was awesome to see the two working together. Though I have to admit, I sure wanted to ride him too! Too bad I can't ride two horses at once, eh?

Natalie felt that B would also be an excellent gaming horse as she trotted him through the pole pattern. B was happy to do anything she asked! What a great night for him! I'm looking forward to riding him on the beach this weekend!

He looks very athletic. I'll bet he would do great at gaming once he's more relaxed about the whole riding thing.

You know, he may just be the type who needs to be kept mentally busy when you're on him. I've known a lot of horses like that. They are fine if they have to think and perform but if you just try to go for a trail ride on a loose rein, they are idiots. Games might be right up his alley!
