The Stubborn One...

14h, 8 year old, bay pony gelding. The FLO picked this horse up from an Indian Reservation and was told that he was wild. The FLO owner decided to hold him back for now, so he halter broke him. This guy is a little resistant to having the halter put on but once it is on, he walked calmly and obediently behind him.

The Stubborn One...

Connor was in rare form today!!! I wanted to go out on the trails with Jessica and Sydney and felt Connor was the best choice to accompany Syd's first adventure on the trails. My other very solid riding horse, Dandy, is very hot. I didn't know how Syd would react and felt that Connor's typical calm and quiet nature would be best for Syd.

However, Connor wasn't having that good of a day. He didn't want to stand still to be saddled. He didn't want to move out in the round pen. And once on the trails, he balked at going down the inclines into the old river bed. We literally argued for about 15 minutes at one of the inclines before he realized that I was going to out-stubborn him and decided to go down it. But, at the next incline, it was the same arguement all over again. LOL!

I was happy to see that while Connor was stubborn and refusing to do as I requested, he wasn't dangerous. Just stubborn. Luckily I won the battles and we ended up having a good ride. It was definitely a new side of Connor that I haven't seen before!

Pics of you and Conner

Postby Hay Man on Sun Dec 03, 2006 11:11 pm

It looks like I need more practice taking pictures, I'll bring my new camera next time I'm there. I'm going to the hay hauler that I've been told he has that new TEF hay, dont know much about it but it's selling fast at Reber ranch, I've so far never had a problem beating the price of hay at reber. I'll let you know just as soon as I know more. If I have enoough orders I'll get a truck and trailer load, 20+ tons. It was good to see you and the kids today. It was cold and windy today, you didn't even let the butter get cold on the twisty bread, ummmm, I just finished the last, yes I'll bring more when I come over next time. Talk to you later, Kerry

Yeah, ponies can be stubborn. I've got 2, trust me, I know. It's good to hear that he's not naughty though, my daughter's pony is right on the border there. He tends to pop up when he doesn't want to do something and he doesn't want to do much.

What a little turkey butt! I keep hoping that Andrea will be able to find safe affordable boarding in the Bellingham area(if anyone knows of one let me know!) so that he can go have a few months of one on one horse/person time. I think Juliane has given him an incredible start and the little Conman needs to now have some intense handling to get him over his "poniness" Than being said I still think he is the CUTEST ever and has great potential for trail and jumping. He just needs to figure out where he fits in on the food chain! Thanks Juli for outstubborning him!

Hey Jaime! Kerry is an awesome hay guy - Monroe might be a bit far for him, but he's pretty agreeable, so I'm sure you could cajole him into heading up there. Especially if you got a large quantity at a time. :) You can call him at 206-491-1136. He's the best hay guy ever! :)

about my hay

Postby Hay Man on Mon Dec 04, 2006 11:56 pm

I buy sell and deliver hay almost anywhere, Monroe isnt too far, I ahve a good friend thats a hay hauler, I go over the hill with him about once a week, when he needs help, 75% of my hay comes from him, I also know the farmers he buys from, he doesnt just go from farmer to farmer like alot of haulers do, one of the farmers hes been buying from for 30 yrs, doing bussiness like this I know whats in the hay how much fertilizers in it and so on, sometimes I get it from one other hauler, I've known him for years also but who ever I get it from, when each load is brought in if I dont like it, I dont buy it, not just the looks or smell but taste, yes I take some and put it in my mouth and chew on it for about 10 mins. or so and if it tastes bitter, it was fertilized to late and if iy tastes bitter to me it will taste bitter to my horses, I buy with my horses in mind. My prices very just a little, some in distance and if a elevator is needed. One of my toughest customers is Julieane, she only wants PRETTY hay, its a tough job but she's worth it, she an awesome person and a good friend. Give me a call and see if I can work something out. What is "TEF" hay? We are not happy with our orchard grass hay that we bought this year, because the horses and even our sheep are not happy with it! We usually buy 5-6 tons all at once of 2nd cutting to last us all year. Location is Just South of Maple Valley, and we stack on pallets on the ground, no elevator needed. Can you tell me more? Heard from others who bought same as us that they were not happy either. thanks!!!!!!!!! Karen
