Time to get sacked out!!!

14h, 8 year old, bay pony gelding. The FLO picked this horse up from an Indian Reservation and was told that he was wild. The FLO owner decided to hold him back for now, so he halter broke him. This guy is a little resistant to having the halter put on but once it is on, he walked calmly and obediently behind him.

Time to get sacked out!!!

Mr. Connor-Man was a complete angel yesterday on our trail ride. From trailering, to standing tied, to just saddling and hopping on, he was great! He had no problems being in the lead, in the middle or at the end of the pack out on the trails. He trudged through water (after taking a couple minute break to drink to his hearts content! LOL), he trotted over downed logs.. he was amazing!

That is, until we were all sitting there, taking a quick break and chatting. I turned around to say something to Chelsea who was right behind me. As I turned around, I set my hand on Connor's rump. He flinched a bit and seemed a little goosy as he tucked his tail. I continued to pet, pat and tickle his rump to get him over it.

He didn't appreciate that maneuver much - as he turned his head around towards me, he seemed to see my foot in the stirrup for the first time and completely panicked. He jolted forwards and started crow-hopping. I was almost able to stay on, but as I lost my balance, that seemed to spook him more. So, off I came.

The good news is that he stopped where he was and waited for me to regain my senses. I reassured him a bit and then got back on. He was great. Totally came back to being the sweet, quiet little pony.

So, I guess it's time to desensitize him to touch! LOL

Other than that little minor fiasco, Connor was excellent on the trails! He sure is an awesome little guy! I just love him to pieces!

Here's some pictures of him from yesterday:
