Getting back in the swing of things...

I went out to the barn rather late last night to feed. I think it was around 10pm before I finally went out. After cleaning all of the stalls, I decided to groom each of the horses before bringing them inside. The horses that have been in the stalls have continually gotten wet and then dried, numerous times over the past few days. While this typically isn't such a big deal, it caused everyone's long winter coat to dry in mats. They all looked wet all the time! :P

Cassidy was the first one eager to come inside and was standing at the gate waiting to be brought in. So, I took him in and hooked him up to the cross ties. I don't think he's ever been in cross ties, but did really well with them, after getting over his initial impatience of not getting to eat right away.

I spent a good half hour brushing him down which he seemed to love. I think I used each of my brushes just to try and get his coat slick and soft again. The best part of the night was when I was done and went to clean his feet. I'm guilty of not working with his feet since my farrier, Dan, spent such a good amount of time during his last trim. However, last night, Cassidy gave up each of his feet easily and patiently. He never tried to evade me, kick or take his foot back as I cleaned all 4 hooves.

What a good boy! He's on his way to being a regular horse! I think my girlfriend, Rachel, is coming out today to help me work with some of the ponies. I may saddle Cassidy up and see if I can take him out on the trails. Wish us luck!

Mr Cassidy is such a sweetheart. He was the first one to let me catch him Saturday. I love the soft look about him. He is so much like an old man that can have some grumpy moments. But is most of the time very sweet!

Hope we are able to hit the trails and go explore today. I better dig out my rain coat just to be safe! Dont want to end up soaked like I did Saturday. Guess its time to waterproof my Carhart.
