Mi Amigo watched with interest while I was giving Ace a neck scratch, but he was just not coming near. He watched me with kind of a forlorn look on his face and scratched himself on a pine tree. This went on for hours.

Me: Come on, honey, come over here and I'll scratch you. You're going to liiiiike it. It would feel really good!

Amigo: Uh-uh. You look like you might eat Peruvian Pasos. And you were dragging that scary snakelooking thing through the mud. The one that spits water. I do not like the snakelooking thing. And I've heard rumors it attacks horses and makes them clean. Uh-uh, no way.

Me: Oh, come on. I've got grain! You know you want it!

After a couple of hours he finally broke down. I backed toward him so he wouldn't realize I was focusing on him and got within arm length. But the really cool thing is that then he actually took a step toward me on his own to get within reach for the neck scratch!

(Look how little he is. I'm only 5'3!)

Awww....! I was so proud of Mi Amigo for taking that huge step towards you, both physically and mentally! How brave of him!

I love that look on his face! "Well, I guess I'll let you scratch my neck". :P
