On his terms...

Mi Amigo continues to hold most people at arm's length. He really puts on this display that shows he doesn't want any attention. However, if you ignore him, he's right there beside you, leaning into you.

If you reach out to touch him, he leans away, turning his head in a most coy manner. Yet, if you turn your back to him, he looks at you like "Where are you going?!"

I saw just this type of interaction going on between him and my farrier, Dan, last night as I was finishing up chores. It was quite hilarious, to see these two distant men, barely reaching out to eachother :)

With his saddle training on hold until a vet looks at his dropped hind pasterns, I have been trying to think of the appropriate exercises for MiAmigo. We went out to the round pen earlier this week and just practices moving away, giving to pressure and being approached and caught. I think at this point, any handling I can do with him is good for him. Though, I do fear him reverting back to a very fearful boy if he goes somewhere that he is not handled daily (or often).

  Dan distant!!

Amigo seems like he wants the attention but doesnt want it offered to him. Like he wants to want it. Almost like he wants to make you feel special that he wants your attention!

Well, you saw what he did with me. 3 hours or so of looking at me warily as though I might eat him for lunch and then all of a sudden...oh, you're going to scratch my itchy spots? Well OK then, you're fine, do whatever you want with me!

The way to these boys' hearts is definitely their itchy necks!
