Buddy's discomfort with a rider

This update is from 4/11/07

When Ally was out a few weeks ago, I explained to her some of the issues that I felt Buddy was having, but that I wanted her opinion on them. To me, it seems as though Buddy is always 'waiting for the axe to fall'. When I go to mount up, he tenses up - his head and neck come up and his tail sticks out a bit.

Once on, he's fairly relaxed at the walk. But if I ask for the trot, he will get nervous, especially if I am leaning forward or sitting straight up. If I am leaning back, he extends out his trot and is relaxed. But the second I sit up or lean forward, up comes his head and neck, and his stride shortens almost in half.

So, with that knowledge, Ally put him through the paces. He seemed to react the same way to her, and it was good to see that her interpretation of his actions was much the same as mine. We both think he's just been harshly handled under saddle and his reactions are out of fear. He just needs each of his rides under saddle to be confidence builders. And of course, being ridden as much as possible.

I think I need a volunteer rider to come help me! :)
