I am very, very pleased to announce that Buddy has finally found a forever home of his own! Buddy's rescue has been one of the more heartbreaking, bittersweet endeavors I've been on. Not only was there the tremendous physical rehabilitation that Buddy needed, but there was/is also so much mental repair that Buddy has needed, and still needs. I have been very worried about finding just the right person for him. Someone that would love him completely and unconditionally, accepting his fears and trust issues and be willing (and able) to work with them.

After last Friday's 'radio ad', Buddy had a LOT of interest in him. However, only one person really seemed to be a potential match. Mariah came out on Friday morning and spent a couple of hours with Buddy, getting to know him, working with him on the ground and then ultimately, riding him. I was thrilled with her soft spoken mannerisms, yet her ability to be firm, which kept Buddy in line. I was hopeful that this would work, but really wanted Ally's input, as she's invested so much of her own heart and soul into helping Buddy.

So, on Saturday afternoon, Mariah came up to play with Buddy again - but this time to show Ally that she could be a good match for Buddy. Almost immediately, Ally agreed with me that this might just be the one! I was so relieved and excited! I couldn't think of anything that I wanted more for Buddy, than to have his own person who would love and dote on him.

Today, I stopped by Mariah's house to do a site check. She lives on 20 acres in Buckley, which consists of two separate 5 acre parcels. She keeps some cows in the pastures, but does not have another horse. Ally and I felt it was in Buddy's best interest to have another equine partner at some point, but that perhaps for the immediate future, being the only horse might help forge the bond between Mariah and Buddy. This seems like a good plan.

Since Mariah's place was on the way to my equestrian drill team practice, and I had my trailer (and Dandy!) with me, I went ahead and brought Buddy along. I personally wanted to know how he'd be around cows, as well as guage his reactions to the new property. He seemed very relaxed and thrilled with the amount of grazing that he could do.

I stayed there for over an hour, letting both horses frolick in the pasture, before needing to load up and go. Buddy has been adopted by Mariah, but is with me for the next week, as Mariah finishes building a shelter for Buddy. I will take him back to his new home next Sunday. I am SO happy for Buddy!!! Of all of the rescues that I've worked with, I think Buddy deserves this happy ending the most!

Here's a few pictures of him (and Dandy) today at his new property:

How wonderful for Buddy. I am so happy he found his own person. I think being the only horse will also halp with his herd bound issues he has too.

I love the picture of he and Dandy rolling in the grass.

I am in tears. Buddy has pulled at my heart for along time. I even wanted to offer him a home, but have 2 horse already, and that would've meant rehoming Benny. I hate selling horses. I am so happy for Buddy that he has found someone. I agree it will help ALOT to be the only horse for awhile, let him and Mariah get bonded. I did that with Hootie when we moved here. It made our bond very strong. Something about Arabs, they need that companionship of another horse. My two play ALOT together.
Congrats to everyone involved!!!

There's nothing better than when they find the right person. Hey, Juliane, have you talked to the radio station? Maybe you can get a little "rescued horse of the day" spot once a week or so. Imagine the possibilities. I'd get those nice pictures and the story to the station to put on their web site and then pitch a weekly 10 minute spot to them.

I got to meet Mariah yesterday and I am soooooo happy that she is going to be Buddy's person! If you took all of the things we have wished for him over the last months and drew a picture of the person it would be her! She is going to have the best "Buddy" ever and he is going to have his own just cannot beat that!
