Week 8

Sunday: Ever have one of those days where you forget/misplace everything? Today was one of those days for me. I get to the barn and realize i forgot my half chaps. and my keys. and my halters. hoofpicks too. normally the missing halfchaps isnt such a big deal, but i happened to be wearning too-short-for-my-leg breeches. Which means the chance for stirrup leathers to touch bear leg. ugh, i hate that feeling. it annoys me to no end. anyway, i had to ride like that today, LOL.

Our Saturday work paid off in the big arena. Class can officially w/t/c on the longe. Just have to send her out on the longe and she'll walk. cluck to trot, or say trot, and kiss to canter. She'll stay out there for as long as you like, occaisonally have to use your hand to wave at her rump but otherwise just goes.

That said, the same cues work under saddle. or leg cues. Class can halt from the seat or the reins. she can steer from the seat or the reins. Her steering from the seat could be much better and something we're working on. She can do a slow joggish trot or a working english trot. She's beginning to balance and carry herself so is getting nice and soft in her back and neck, though she still pops that head up and then rebalances down like a greenie does as they find that sweet spot- but she's not pulling on the reins, just trying to find her spot. The joggish thing is not really anything official, i've just been working with speed within the gait, as well as shortening lengthening stride. i'm not very westerny so i haven't really pushed the training of the jog for fear of screwing something up, LOL.

She can circle and serpentine but sometimes needs a pretty strong outside leg to hold it together otherwise you'll drift, LOL.

This week i'm going to try to lay out some ground poles and do some work with those. Stay tuned!

Monday: Lesson day. We rode in the round pen so Sequoia could try riding sans longe line. She did awesome- Class was a very good girl! Tomorrow is Ally & Class day. ground poles, perhaps?

I want to apologize for the lack of pictures! I havent had anyone with me during our sessions. Hopefully on Thursday I can snag my student to take some video of Class in action before her lesson. Lets hope it doesnt rain.

Yes, ground poles! :)

I trotted Heidi over a half-x today. She did not jump it but she did not try to evade it either. Good girl! I am putting some rides on her while she is at Eremon Farm.
