Friends of Zoe!

This exotic 9 year old Arabian mare is in training to prepare her for a home of her own. Previously rescued by Cowgirl Spirit in November 2005, she now requires more advanced skills to be placed in a new home.

Friends of Zoe!

The Craigslist ad I placed last week seems to have helped Zoe find some new buddies. In particular, a previous Cowgirl Spirit volunteer whom has worked with Zoe before sent an email exploring the opportunity. Kristi came out on Sunday and spent a couple hours with Zoe.

I was relieved to see that they worked well together. Kristi is quiet and confident and doesn't seem to be unnerved by Zoe's sometimes neurotic and nervous behavior. While Zoe isn't ever dangerous, she's often 'bouncy'. LOL! If you react to her antics, she usually just gets worse. But if you ignore it, she settles down and goes to work for you.

Kristi rode Zoe well, and it was reassuring to see how Zoe responded to a different rider/handler. When Zoe wasn't sure what was being asked of her, she didn't get frustrated or shut down. She tried different actions until she performed as Kristi requested. Yay! I am so proud of the mare that Zoe has become!

Kristi will probably head out to ride Zoe a few times a week. She went out on Monday (though I wasn't able to go!) and said that she had trouble bridling Zoe. I will work with the two of them to one, show Kristi how I bridle Zoe, but also to see how she is doing it and how to encourage Zoe to be tolerant of the different method. Zoe needs to be well rounded enough that anyone can bridle her. I know that it is difficult for her though, with her past in the last year or so.

Here's a few pics of Zoe & Kristi. They look great, huh! :)
