An English lesson for Zoe & I!

This exotic 9 year old Arabian mare is in training to prepare her for a home of her own. Previously rescued by Cowgirl Spirit in November 2005, she now requires more advanced skills to be placed in a new home.

An English lesson for Zoe & I!

I went to Ally's barn today to get setup for Shakirah's debut, and figured since I had my trailer with me, why not bring along someone to ride in the indoor arena??? :) Ms. Zoe hadn't been ridden since drill practice almost two weeks ago, so it was certainly time!

I have been going through a real low slump lately in regards to my riding. I feel like my foundation has fallen apart and I don't know how to get it back. I want to take lessons, but don't know who to go to for lessons. What kind of lessons do I need? When the trainer asks what I want to learn, is it acceptable to give a vague answer like "I just want to know how to ride better"? Ugh!

So, while I've taken lessons with my girlfriend, Erin, this was an opportunity to learn more about English. I know nothing about riding English, so spending some time with Ally, learning how to sit properly, hold my hands correctly, use my seat, position my feet, etc, was all very good.

And of course, Ms. Zoe was a superstar! She was good about everything, even the English saddle. I don't know if she's had one on before, but she had no problem with it. If anything, she was much easier to ride with it, than the Western saddle! Hmmm!

Our lesson tonight was short and sweet, but hopefully we will have many more! :)
