She's even kid-proof!

Today, my 6 year old daughter, Cassidy, was behaving exceptionally well :) She asked if she could ride when we headed out to work with the horses. My first reaction was "no". But then I thought about Skittles, who has been a gem, and really would prefer enjoyable riding, rather than going around in circles as I lunge her or work on her gaits. So, I decided to let Cassidy and Skittles have some time together :) They were SO cute together!

Skittles was very well behaved and kept a watchful eye on Cassidy's movements when she was on the ground brushing Skittles. Once in the saddle, Skittles was incredibly tolerant and willing for Cassidy. I felt she was very safe and I trusted them both.

I let the two of them wander around the yard for about 45 minutes. Skittles started to get a bit grumpy towards the end when she heard us in the barn dishing out the evening grain for all of the horses. But her "grumpiness" consisted of heading to the barn and refusing to leave :P

Oh, and in the following pictures, you'll notice I had two sets of reins - this was one for Cassidy and the other to keep Skittles from putting her head down to eat the grass. She's *very* grass motivated :) Once she realized she couldn't eat she did exactly as Cassidy asked. She also did not have any issue with the few times our puppy, Hercules, ran after them, wanting to be part of the fun :)

This horse is definitely a treasure! Mulesrule, you got a gem! Good job!

Oh, my goodness. Those pictures are so sweet. What a doll this mare is. It really does make you wonder what her story is. I guess Mulesrule got a real gem! That's great!
