One step at a time!

This 7 year old Arabian type mare was originally rescued from the feedlot by Cowgirl Spirit. Watch as her training advances.

One step at a time!

I have been extremely pleased with Salsa's improvement in the short amount of time that she's been with me. She is an extremely smart mare and loves interaction!

Each day I have worked with her with the clippers, and what started out as a nightmare, with me thinking I would never get to clip her - to today, when Salsa let me clip her entire bridle path, and most of the hair under her cheek. I have not yet done her muzzle, but intend to work with her daily with the clippers.

The farrier was also out today to trim Zoe and Salsa. I was pleased with Salsa's demeanor and quiet manner. She had no problems with standing for the farrier. Janai has done a great job with her!

Before ending for the day, I quickly tacked up Salsa and did some work with her on the ground. She was having a very difficult time paying attention, due to the fact that it was feeding time and all the horses were coming in for dinner. This just made me want to keep working with her until she was focused on me. Poor girl! LOL

After a short while, I did a few mounting exercises with Salsa. She was good, and once tried to walk off, but after asking her to stand, she quieted down. It sounds like Janai has ridden Salsa a few times, but it's been a few months. So, I am treating Salsa as unbroke and starting her from scratch :)

Hopefully in a week or so, she'll be ready for her first ride! Here's a couple pics from tonight:
