Preparing for the beach!

This gorgeous black stud was part of the bucking stock string that was at the Yakima Feedlot in December. Will enter training the beginning of May 2006.

Preparing for the beach!

Rory and I had our 5th ride under saddle this evening. I had decided not to take him to the beach, instead taking B in his place. However, after thinking more about it today, and talking to Rory's owner, Nickie, we thought it would be in his best interest if he went to the beach also. Except - I hadn't ridden him since that Sunday we went in the river! Yikes! That was a week and a half ago!

So, I decided to take him over to the Fall City arena today and put his 5th ride under saddle on him. We arrived and immediately unloaded and proceeded to brush the horses down. Rory is perfect at standing tied patiently!

After tacking him up, I took him to the arena and warmed him up by lunging him. He was quite a bit better this time than he was the last time. I think he understood what I was asking much more, plus I'm sure the fact that it wasn't 100 degrees helped! :P

Once he was warmed up, I mounted up and rode around. At first he was unsure and not quite in the mood to work, though I was having difficulty getting there myself. I had just put new stirrups on my saddle and this was my first time riding in it again. Trying to get the settings just right was difficult. However, within a few moments, Rory and I were working together much better and were walking and trotting around the arena with ease. He also trotted right next to B without any issues!

We didn't have much daylight so we were only there for about an hour, but it sure was a great experience! I was very proud of Rory :) He's such an amazing horse! Here he is sniffing noses with B.

And his handsome self:
