A care lease for Rory?

This gorgeous black stud was part of the bucking stock string that was at the Yakima Feedlot in December. Will enter training the beginning of May 2006.

A care lease for Rory?

Postby Juliane on Mon Sep 25, 2006 11:26 pm

A friend of mine, whom I've known for quite some time, contacted me the other day to see if I knew of any ponies that might be available for a care lease for a couple of girls who would be training and showing it. Hmmmm.... That sounded like it might be a good deal for Rory!

So, today I pulled Rory out for a quick brush up on our manners and training. Surprisingly, it's been 3 weeks since I rode him last! I wanted him to be on his best behavior when we went to go meet his potential new home, but was expecting a rambunctious boy as we worked. I was shocked at how perfect he was!

I was in a hurry as I retrieved him from the barn down the road, tied him up, quickly brushed him down, saddled him up and then headed to the round pen. I had him move out and work in both directions. He did exactly as I asked and never challenged my requests.

I hopped on and rode him at a walk and trot in both directions - again, he was perfect! Wow - for a green horse with maybe 20 rides on him and a 3 week period of no riding - he was outstanding!

I quickly took him back, untacked him and gave him a quick bath so he'd be clean and perfect! As soon as we were done, I loaded him in the trailer and headed to Sharon's house.

Rory unloaded perfectly and was a perfect gentleman as he was introduced to everyone. Sharon will be caring for him, while Sophie and Maggie will be riding and training him.

We took him out to the arena where they turned him loose and spent some time getting to know him. I was especially pleased to see that Rory was very laid back as he sniffed noses with two other horses on the other side of the fence. In the past, he's become very studdy, arching his neck, snuffling loudly and sometimes squeeling. He did none of that today. After a quick greeting, he wandered off! Wow!

After a short while, Sophie and Maggie groomed him, worked with picking up all 4 of his feet to clean them out, and then tacked him up. He was great for all of it, though still needs work on his hind legs :P But he did try!

Sophie was the first one to ride him - she had him going around the arena, doing small circles around some barrels that were set up. Rory was perfect! He was laid back, easy going, interested in his surroundings, but paid close attention to Sophie's requests. After about 15 minutes, she handed him over to Maggie who got a few minutes on him. They were both incredibly impressed with him :) I, on the other hand, was as choked up as a mother at her kid's high school graduation. I couldn't help but think "My little boy is growing up!".

It was getting dark quickly, so they took him down to the barn and untacked him. Rory got to meet another resident horse, a beautiful friesien named Alibi. Boy, does that horse make me drool! :P Rory also learned how to stand tied in the cross ties. He was, of course, perfect! :)

Then, he was put away in his large double stall with a run. I am crossing my fingers that Rory works out for Sharon, Sophie and Maggie. It really will be a perfect situation for Rory. He was certainly soaking up all the attention he was getting!!! :)

I am looking forward to hearing from Sharon and seeing how Rory fits in! I'm crossing my fingers that they will care lease him!

AWWWWWW  I will miss his cute little self but those pictures with the girls on him are so wonderful and they really seemed to like him too! It speaks very well of your handling of him that he is so comfortable in a different situation, with different people, english tack, new horses and experiences. You have done an OUTSTANDING job with him! Jingling that they fall in love and want to be his forever home!

I can't wait to see some show ring pictures of him. I've always thought he had hunter pony written all over him. He seems like he'd have the mind to do mini-events, too - like he'd be a good boy x-country without getting strong or stupid. He's been so good about trail rides for a greenie!

All I can say is that if I had the chance to have a pony like him when I was a little girl I never would have let him go. He's every little girl's dream... the beautiful black stallion, er, gelding, with a flowing mane and tail. What more could a little girl possibly ask for?
