An update on Rory's care lease home!

This gorgeous black stud was part of the bucking stock string that was at the Yakima Feedlot in December. Will enter training the beginning of May 2006.

An update on Rory's care lease home!

Here's an update from Sharon:

Hi Juliane,

Just wanted to let you know that Rory is doing great. He’s had a lesson from Paige (with Sophie riding). Paige loved him.

And I used him in a lesson the other day, and he was great.

I’m pretty sure we will want to keep him.

Thanks Julianne,

=sharon

Sounds like he may be staying there, so for now, I am moving Rory's forum to the Success Stories area. However, please contact Nickie at nickiejohnson@msn.com if you are interested in purchasing him! He is still available for sale! :)

I am not at all surprised.

I am just waiting for those show pictures next summer. :) I see a lot of pony hunter championships in his future!

Hehe Laurie! You must be psychic! As you were typing this, I was at Rory's new barn, checking up on him to make sure he's doing ok. I was very, very pleased to see how happy Rory (who is now being called Riley, though he will always be Rory to me) was doing.

Embarressingly, I didn't even recognize Rory when I was standing right in front of him! What was wrong with me? He was in a stall, which was lower than the aisleway I was standing on. He's also been body clipped so he doesn't sweat as much, and his mane has been thinned.

He looks great! I was most surprised at the incredible bond he's built with Sophie. He hardly paid any attention to me :( He and I used to be like two peas in a pod. I was his girl.. Now he's got a new girl :( Awwww.. But he looked very happy!!

She tacked him up and took him out to the arena. I watched her work with a trainer, practicing posting and her "jump" position. She and her sister, Maggie, have joined 4H. They are working to attend a local schooling show. I believe Sophie is going to start jumping Rory soon.

I asked that they stay in touch so that I could attend the show. I was SO proud! I also found out that Sharon, who owns the facility, wants to buy him and make him part of the schooling horse program. He is currently assigned to Sophie. :) I believe she'll be contacting Nickie shortly to make arrangements. So, while not official, it looks like Rory has found his forever home :)

Sophie is currently riding him in a regular halter, but has set up an appointment to get his wolf teeth removed :) Then he will graduate to a bridle with a bit. He was very sensitive in the halter though! What a good boy!

Here's some pics and a video clip of his and Sophie's lesson today. It's long, about 3+ minutes and 12+ mb.

WOW, isn't he just the cutest ever! He does look happy. Its truly amazing you found this diamond in the rough, and brought the best out in him. He found a wonderful girl and place to take care of him. You can't get better then that. Every horse deserves a change!

He looks great, but the trainer in my is dying when that girl was posting around on the wrong diagonal and with her leg out in front or her. Ah, I am really turning into a trainer.

Rory cracks me up. He looks perfectly at home at a hunter barn. He's like "I was never "bucking stock", that was a vicious rumor. I'm a purebred Welsh pony worth gazillions, can't you see that?"

Here's an update from Rory's care lease home:

Here are pictures of Rory. We just started him with a bit. I’m going to try some different bits on him (like a French-link). I don’t think he likes the plain snaffle too much. We started him cantering on the lunge line. He can canter straight, but has trouble cantering in a circle, carrying a rider (it’s just a matter of him getting his balance).

I had the vet out last week and she said that she didn’t think he needed his wolf teeth taken out. In fact, she didn’t see them (were they take out already maybe). His canines were just erupting, indicating that he is 4-5 years old. She estimated about $500 to get his right hind leg cleaned up (remove the big roll of skin).

Hope you like the way he is looking. He’s a cutie and very kind with the kids on the ground.

Best regards,
Sharon
