Patience's trim job

This beautiful 6 year old sorrel mare was rescued from the Yakima Feedlot on 12/13/05. She had a halter that was severely embedded into her jowls, poll and nose.

Patience's trim job

When Patience was first rescued from the feedlot, she was mostly unhandleable. With her halter that had been completely embedded into her face, she flinched with every movement I made. It took a couple weeks before I could successfully brush her entire body, and many weeks after that before I could successfully pick up and clean out her feet.

Since that time, I have had Dan come out and trim her front feet only, though that was about 3 months ago. Patience's hooves grow slowly, but it was time for her to be done again today.

I pulled her out and Dan and I got to work on her feet. She stood well, though offered a couple of temper tantrums. While I wasn't surprised to see her "mare-ish" behaviors, I was surprised to see a complete lack of fear. Just plain stubborness :)

Yes, it sounds nuts, but this really is something to celebrate!

We got all 4 feet trimmed and completely cleaned up! Go Patience!!!

You better believe that's something to celebrate. A lot of people wouldn't believe that the horse in those pictures was the same one that people were starting to take up a collection to have her euthanized because she was completely unhandleabe and dangerous. That's got to make you feel pretty darn good. WOW!!!

Here's some pics I took of her when I was at the feedlot to pick her up in December, and a couple hours later when she arrived home with me. Boy, she sure looked like a scared, frightened girl :(

She has sure changed. Such a regal presence about her, even when she is pouting over having her feet done...LOL

When I saw Patience on the lot, I could not believe that horrible wound from the halter. I was so concerned about her future, with all the talk of euthanizing her, I was so glad when you took her, and just look at her now, she is a pampered princess. Great job

For record keeping purposes.... Patience was trimmed yesterday by my farrier, Margo Hill. I didn't note her last trim in November. This is a good way for me to quickly and easily find out the last date of her trims. :)

I don't think we were worried about you keeping your horses up.

Patience looks like she is about to fall asleep on Margos back. She looks so relaxed.
