Installing forward!

This striking 12 year old paint gelding was a bucking stock stallion for all of his life until a couple of days ago. He is now on the road to recovery and trust as he learns that not all humans are bad!

Installing forward!

I 'rode' Ace tonight, for the second time - if you can call it riding. Monday night was the first time I sat on him and asked him to move. We did lots of backwards steps before he finally took three tiny steps forward, at which point, I hopped off and gave him tons of praise.

This afternoon, I decided to press my luck again - it was very cold out (about freezing), and both my daughter and I were shivering, so we went as quickly as we could so we could go back inside the nice warm house :) Hence, the video only, no pictures, and the lack of quality video! :) (OH! And I did brush Ace - but he had rolled in a nice wet muddy spot moments before being pulled out of the pasture - goofball!)

In the 10 or so minutes that I 'rode', we did get some decent forward motion. Now maybe tomorrow I can install some forward motion *and* steering! I'm just so completely delighted to be on Ace's back, I don't care if we ever do anything more than what we did today. He has completely surpassed my expectations!

A quick video from today - look for pics after tomorrow's session :)

I took Ace out to the neighboring arena yesterday and hopped on. We just plodded around again - with Ace choosing were we went (for the most part) and stopping intermittantly. I pretty much was just a passenger that gave him lots of reassurances. He seems to take a few steps and then get anxious and need to stop, wherein I give tons of praise, then we go again.

I am SO proud of Ace - he is perfect in every way to me :) If we are only able to just plod along like we did yesterday, I'd be thrilled! He is the most amazing horse ever!

Here's a few pics and a 10 minute video from mounting to dismounting - you can see how far he's come in just three rides, huh? :D

Julie,
Ebit and I are so proud of you and Ace. I couldn't keep the tears back when I watched you two. I know how scared he was and how much he has trusted you. To see you on his back and him actually responding was such an emotional high! I applaud you!!!! I can't wait to see what happens next!!!!
