A day at the arena!

Natalie and I took Margie and Patience to the Bridle Trails arena today to work them. It was a great experience to be able to take them to an unfamiliar location, with unfamiliar horses exercising around us.

Margie was amazing, acting like it was all 'old hat', from trailering, to tying, to riding in the arena. She was very conscious of Patience and uncomfortable leaving her side, but did when Natalie requested. Natalie was able to ride her over to her old drill team, introducing Margie to each of the horses gathered around their coach. It was incredibly satisfying to see Margie welcomed into her new family :)

In my opinion, Margie does seem to need some ground work done, as well as some basic saddle work. I think she's got an excellent foundation, just needs a refresher course. I intend to start working with her daily in the round pen, teaching her the basics of lunging, and encouraging her gaits under saddle.

Natalie rode her in my hackamore today, and she did ok, but not as well as I would expect. I don't have a regular bosal, but would love to try one. I may just put a basic hollow mouth snaffle in her to start and get her used to the bit. I'll have to check to see if she has her wolf teeth still :)

Here's a few pics from today :)
